As per the 1931 census report of Mayurbhanj State, “Bhanj Puran” and “Puran” were Included in the Tribal Hindus list since they were socially, economically, and educationally backward. They are aboriginal inhabitants of the Mayurbhanj District in Odisha like other aboriginal Tribes such as the Bhuyan, Bathudi, Santhal, Bhumij, Kharia, etc., and recognized as Scheduled Tribes by the Government. After the merger, Mayurbhanj with Odissa w.e.f 1st January 1949 “Bhanj Puran” and “Puran” castes were excluded from the Tribal Hindu List. However, the Government of Odisha have recommended to the Government of India to include in the ST list of Odisha in the year 1978, 2007 & 2018 which is under consideration before the Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs.
(A) In the year 1952-53, the following social workers of Puran caste in the District of Mayurbhanj were interested to make a Sangha among the people of Puran Caste of Mayurbhanj District to fulfill their different Aims and objects.
