Welcome to Bhanjasamiti

As per 1931 census report of Mayurbhanj State , “Bhanj Puran” and “Puran” were Included in Tribal Hindus list since they were socially, economically and educationally backward. They are aboriginal inhabitants of Mayurbhanj District in the state of Odisha like other aboriginal Tribes such as the Bhuyan, Bathudi, Santhal, Bhumij, Kharia etc. and recognized as Scheduled Tribes by the Government. After merger,Mayurbhanj with Odissa w.e.f 1st january 1949 “Bhanj Puran” and “Puran” caste have been excluded from the Tribal Hindu List. However Government of Odisha have recommended to the Government of India to include in the ST list of odisha in the year 1978, 2007, 2018,2020,2021 & 2022 which is under consideration before the Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs.
